We are adding a Quantitative Research Consultant to StarMine's San Francisco office. In this highly visible position, you will represent Thomson Reuters/StarMine as you explain and promote our quantitative models to the best money managers in the world, including hedge fund managers, proprietary traders, and other top institutional investors. This is a collaborative and influential role in which you will demonstrate your superb quantitative aptitude and the ability to adeptly articulate the finest details of our sophisticated investment tools and models. You will serve as our valued link between our quant research team and our client base, perform custom analyses to meet their specific analytic needs, and publish research notes highlighting how to extract the most benefit from our quantitative models.


As a Quantitative Research Consultant, you will work on sophisticated research projects to enhance our analytical toolset. This position is more externally focused than our traditional quantitative analysis role as you will provide client support by explaining the research behind our analytical products, responding to inquiries and facilitating the integration of our products in clients' processes. You will also have the opportunity to manage custom projects for clients, so the ability to take a consultative approach will be extremely important. As you meet with our top clients, your ability to perform statistical analysis on large, time-series data sets and extensive code writing skills using SAS, R, and/or SQL will be an asset. Quantitative Consultants are also responsible for generating thought-provoking research notes, and we are seeking applicants with experience writing analytical and defensible yet broadly comprehendible technical pieces. Those individuals who have deep and rigorous analytical abilities and outstanding written and verbal communication will thrive in this role. You will have the opportunity to travel and meet personally with the top investment managers domestically and abroad.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree minimum; Master's or Ph.D. in engineering, mathematics, sciences, computer science, economics, business, or finance preferred

  • Previous work experience in the financial services industry a plus

  • Academic or applied understanding of financial statements and financial data

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations to both internal and external audiences regarding financial information

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with statistical packages such as R, S-Plus, Matlab, SAS, SPSS

  • Experience working with extremely large databases using SQL

  • Experience with writing quantitative research papers and reports, preferably quantitative finance

  • Ability and willingness to travel for up to 40% of your work hours throughout the US, Europe, and Asia

We are adding a Quantitative Research Analyst to StarMine's Global Research team in San Francisco. As one of our Quantitative Research Analysts, you will join a team of highly skilled top-notch quants and develop a backtesting environment for our newest factors and models by extracting a research data set from a massive database. You will actively participate in the entire research process: developing and testing initial hypotheses, gaining insights from research findings, and creatively overcoming any obstacles along the way. Simply put, your challenge will be to build and test intuitively satisfying quantitative stock ranking models that work robustly. Your experience with understanding analyst reports, reviewing and dissecting company financial statements, and programming complex financial models will make you our next superstar. Qualifications
